Gabiley Municipality Launches the SUIDAC Programme
Gabiley Municipality has officially launched the Sustainable Urban Integration of Displacement-Affected Communities (SUIDAC) Programme, implemented in partnership with Cities Alliance and funded by the European Union (EU). The programme supports inclusive, sustainable, and well-planned urban development in Gabiley.
As one of the fastest-growing cities in Somaliland, Gabiley faces increasing pressure on basic services, infrastructure, and urban governance due to rapid urbanisation and the presence of displacement-affected communities. SUIDAC has been introduced to address these challenges through coordinated and inclusive approaches.
The programme focuses on strengthening municipal governance, improving access to essential services such as education, healthcare, sanitation, and waste management, and supporting both host communities and displacement-affected families. Community participation and inclusive urban planning are central to its approach.
Key interventions under SUIDAC in Gabiley include the construction of new classrooms at Sheikh M. Warsame Public School, expansion of healthcare services at Gabiley Referral Hospital, improvements to sanitation facilities, expansion of the Gabiley Orphanage Centre, and the development of a municipal waste management strategy.
Funded by the European Union and implemented by Cities Alliance in collaboration with Gabiley Municipality and TAAKULO, the programme combines local leadership with international expertise to ensure effective and sustainable implementation.
Gabiley Municipality remains committed to transparency, accountability, and regular communication, working closely with communities and partners to deliver lasting improvements in urban services and governance.
Through SUIDAC, Gabiley is taking an important step toward becoming a more inclusive, resilient, and well-managed city.
